Errol D Peace - Chairman
During his seventeen years in the Johannesburg Traffic Department,
Errol started his training career, which has spanned for 34 years.
He has been actively involved with training in a variety of different
areas, including Retail Security, Management, Fraud Investigation,
Occupational Health and Safety and Life Skills Programmes.
Errol is an Accredited Fraud Examiner and has been a member
of SASA for more than ten years. He has served on the Event Security
task team of the SASETA SGB.

John Kole |
John Kole – Vice Chairman
John is currently a lecturer in the department of Criminology and Security Science (in the programme Security Management) at UNISA. He has M Tech degree in Security Management, B Tech degree in Security Risk Management and diplomas in Security Management, Security Supervision and Human Resources Management. John is currently doing his PhD in Security Management with UNISA.
He has worked as a Security Co-ordinator for SASOL Oil and as Security Manager for Carolina Tobacco Company, where he was responsible for the formulation and management of security strategies, policies and proceedures. Prior to this, he was Chief Protection Officer at AngloGold Ashanti where he supervised the Control Room and mobile units.

Terry Scallan

Terry Scallan
Terry has been a member of the Institute since 2000, when he started
as a Junior Graduate. In 2005, he was appointed to the Board of
Governors and was very active in membership recruitment, security
education, training and development. He was also the convenor of
the verification committee and was instrumental in establishing
relaitons with the UK Security Institute.
Terry is an appointed member of the Private Security Chamber at SASSETA.
Terry has been in the security environment for over 25 years.
He took early retirement from the South African National Defence
Force in 1997 after completing the SA Air Force Command and Staff
Course. Terry has been a security consultant, the general manager
of a guarding company and a security training consultant. He is
presently the Managing Director of BTC Training, Johannesburg and
a member of Power Corporate Consultants and Associates.

Kris Pillay |
Professor Kris Pillay (Director, School
of Criminal Justice, College of Law, UNISA)
Prof. Kris Pillay is the immediate past Chairperson and is a Fellow
of the South African Institute for Security.
In 2002, he was presented with two prestigious awards by the International
Institute for Security and Safety Management, namely the International
Security Practitioner of the Year and a Special Recognition Award
for the most Valuable Contribution and Support to the promotion
of professionalism with the security industry.
In 2003 he was nominated as Security Practitioner of the Year
for the Johannesburg region by the South African Security Association.
He has presented a number of academic papers at various international
conferences and published widely on criminal justice and security
related issues in scientific journals. Most recently, he has had the
honour of being elected to the UNISA council.

Gert Pretorius |
Gert Pretorius (Colonel, retired)
After retiring from the SA National Defence Force Gert qualified
with SASSETA as an assessor and moderator.
As a training consultant and associate of Power Corporate Consultants,
he is currently acting as facilitator for various security unit
standards. He also conducted crime intelligence courses
for clients in the mining industry. Gert was also previously
involved as part of a project team of NICDAM (National Institute
of Community Development and Management) to design crime prevention
strategies for a provincial government.

Tim de Bruyn |
Tim de Bruyn
Tim is National Training Manager for Enforce Training Academy, managing a learnership of over 1 000 security officers.
He has many years' experience in this sector and has completed numerous training courses and qualifications related to fire safety, firearm competency, retail security, aviation security, cash in transit security and armed response. He is a registered assessor and moderator with SASSETA and a Graduate Member of the SA Institute of Security.

Gavriel Schneider |
Gavriel Schneider
Gavriel Schneider is a Director and founding partner of the Dynamic
Alternatives Group (DAG), a Specialised Security Services and Training
organisation with offices in South Africa, Australia, the UK and
India.
Gavriel has over a decade of operational close protection and specialist
security experience, and specialises in Unarmed Combat and defensive
tactics – in which he has over 25 years’ practical experience.
He has worked and/or trained on five continents and presented training
to Presidential protection units, Special Forces, operational CPOs,
Law enforcement personnel, reaction teams and various other security
operators.
The first recipient of a Masters degree in Security Risk Management
from UNISA, Gavriel also holds a Bachelor degree in Business Administration
and a graduate Diploma in Marketing and Management. He is an ASIS
CPP and has a Diploma in Security Management from the Australian
Security Academy, and is the author of Beyond the Bodyguard: a guide
to protective practices success.

Walter Michael Verster |
Mike Verster
Mike Verster has been involved in Education Training and Development
for 22 years - from coaching single individuals to managing the total
ETD spectrum – and he has vast experience.
He is currently an ETD Senior consultant and registered External
Skills Development Facilitator (SDF) at
SASSETA for numerous National Security Companies. He advises clients
on WSP and SSP related issues, manages their Skills Development Planning
Committees and advises on skills priorities arising from industry
related research.
Mike is a corporate member of SASA (Security Association of South
Africa) and Graduate Member of SAIS, where he is ETD specific advisor.

Reggie Marimuthu |
Reggie Marimuthu
Reggie Marimuthu chaired
the Transmission Communications Services Committee while being
a Director (Brigadier) of the South African Police. He was also
the head of Detective Services, and resigned after 23 years when
he was head hunted to take up a position with the South African
Postal Services as a General Manager. He was the National Head
of Security and Investigations Division. Throughout his career
he has had a special interest in communications, experiencing the
impact of instant and effective communication systems from a security
point of view. He often assisted the Department of Communication
Services, especially in rural areas. Realising the huge scope in
the communications industry, Reggie joined forces with his co-directors
to provide a full and comprehensive service to meet the standards
as set by the Minister during 1997. He was also the past Chairman
of the International Police Association (Head Office).He was the
chairman of the S.A. Institute of Security and he served the institute
from 1996. He was also appointed Fellow of the institute and awarded
life membership for the Institute. He received an award for (SERVICE
ABOVE SELF), He is also responsible for all fundraising events
for S.A.I.S. He is currently a Chief Executive Officer at Etleimu(Pty)Ltd.
Reggie was born in Durban and moved to Pretoria in 1991, and is
now married with four children.

Rosemary Cowan

Rosemary Cowan [Administrator]
Rosemary has been involved in the security industry since leaving
school when her first job was for Chubb Lock and Safe Company
at the time when it was still a family concern.
She emigrated to South Africa in December 1989 and has been
working for the Institute since May 1990 when her father, Frank
Sims was the Administrator. Following his death in July 1997,
she took over his position as Administrator for both the Security
Association of South Africa (SASA) as well as the South African
Institute of Security (SAIS).
She left the Security Association in July 2006 after 16 years
service, but has continued as the current Administration Manager
for SAIS. She has recently been awarded Honorary Membership of
the Institute in recognition of her work over the past 17 years.
